Policy Review is a platform that analyses and provides policy recommendations on important issues pertaining to North Korea and North Korean human rights. Aimed at policymakers and decision-makers, the Policy Review bridges the gap between European policy and the realities of life and governance in North Korea.

Often thought to be irresolvable, the North Korean human rights crisis requires more carefully crafted European policy to ensure the immediate, mid- and long-term cessation of human rights abuses. Through monthly policy newsletter-style briefings on a diverse range of topics, the European Alliance for Human Rights in North Korea has set out to provide avenues for Separative Engagement.

Seperative Engagement can be defined as: 'External engagement that is premised on a separation of the North Korean state’s ideological-organisational binds from the North Korean people'.

Existing band-aid style solutions to North Korean human rights on the humanitarian aid level have not succeeded in making significant inroads into dealing with the problems. It is in this context that we will focus on developing realistic proposals that the European community can use to support North Koreans to work towards ending the human rights abuses, as well as to create opportunities for alleviating poverty.
